Yes, but not just easier. The Constitution and other laws have kept the Trump-Republican regime from taking total control. Despite this full internal attack on the U.S., the American system has held. It's damaged and weakened, but the walls have not been breached. Removing the 5th brings the walls down.
But those "losses" you mentioned haven't really done anything.
They're still weaponizing the government against journalists and non-journalists (Jimmy Kimmel for example)
They're still attacking Science, scientists, educational institutions, etc
They're still sending "homeland" and others after critics
And don't tell me you trust data put out by the government😂
That case with the Venezuelans is meaningless
when there are still masked thugs abducting and disappearing people. They are protected by the exact same Constitutional rights as everyone else in the US, which, to me, means nobody is protected. The fact the disingenuous Supreme Court says it's fine doesn't make it so, and I'd argue that makes it much worse.
So, I have to go back to my original statement that it would make it easier to do what they have been and continue to do.
I suppose it would be more "legit" (legally) than finding another way or simply ignoring the courts as they're currently doing about 30% of the time though
I should add that I understand, within the system, the fact the supreme court says it's ok does technically make it so, which is why it's that much worse😭
I agree with everything you've said. The attack is still ongoing. The constitutional limits are holding now. Holding now does not mean they will hold forever, and breaking them is the goal of Trump and the Republicans. Failing to break those limits the first several times is no reason for them to stop trying.
On the rule of law: yes, it protects everyone, including people many Americans don't want protected. Freedom for everyone includes freedom for people some think should not have it. It is the price of a free society.
So, really they just want to make it easier to do what they're pretty much already doing
