Trump is losing control of the Republican Party, and the collapse is already underway.
His approval is at a record low. Gas set a new record over Labor Day weekend. The war he started with Iran is deeply unpopular. A majority of Republican voters call the Texas redistricting what it is: cheating. Groceries cost more than they did a year ago, and people notice that every week at the register.
Republicans came to Dallas for the “midterm convention” to cheer him on. Behind the scenes, they are planning for the day he is gone. Donors, strategists, and lawmakers are already fighting over who takes the party from him. JD Vance wants it. Ted Cruz has already said the party is not behind Vance.
So the obvious question is who wins that fight. But that is the wrong question.
