Agreed, and leaders in France, Germany, and Lithuania are calling for a "true European army," a European Defense Union with shared command structures. It is moving in the right direction.
Hope so. The lessons of German aggression in WW II was distance was not safety. First they came for Czech but all the way to Denmark. Ukraine has the only battle hardened army in Europe and Poland next door is taking Russia seriously. Short of nuclear Armageddon Europe can handle Russia if it gets it shit together
They will need to upgrade their defense capabilities and NATO x USA needs to be able to act as a unified force. Which I cannot do today.

If Russia attacks a NATO member, I feel it will get its act together.
I think better before they attack. Though they really have already with their hybrid war. Sabotage, psy ops, election interference, cables etc
Being prepared is always the better course, and the EU likes to plan. Their weak point is speed; they are slow to execute.
