Canadian is so similar too. Rules based show me your work environment not on relationships. Even as a Canadian born person who is always about relationships, I seem to always conflict with the North American system.

I agree with you on both accounts. The current Republican administration is highly corrupt, and it did not happen overnight. And culture does not fit in a tiny box, nor are any societies at the extremes of any given cultural dimension. One of my goals with these articles is to simplify the concepts so that those with little or no knowledge of the concepts can understand them. Am I aiming too low?

Yes, the Anglo world is rule based, but there is always room for relationships, humanity. I want the police officer to give a ticket to anyone who is speeding, even the chief of police's brother. But I also want him not to ticket the mother rushing her child to the hospital. I also have a difficult time balancing my relationship based outlook with the rigid rules based Western system. There is a balance in there somewhere, but I have not yet found it.

Thank you. So much of our miscommunications, misunderstandings, just missing the point comes down to our entrenched perspectives on life. But, as you know, we can do better. What did you study in grad school?

“You wouldn’t give your brother a government contract just because he’s your brother. That’s corruption.”

This is currently happening in the US and has been since I was a child. Clearly the government of the US is not rule based. Lobbying is one of the greatest pastimes. Accepting gifts like a $400,000 aircraft, 2 billion to start a hedge fund, your own crypto currency. Congress with zero power. A grifter, want to be “dictator”.

Respectfully, I find this opinion piece, interesting with some substance to it, but trying to fit all cultures into a tiny box.

This is exactly why many politicians and business executives should be required to take a communications and negotiations course at the bare minimum. Take me back to my grad school days! Very insightful. Thanks for the reminders. :)
