What will America’s new normal be? All we know for certain is that it will not be what it was.

The post-World War II American Global Order rested on international law and, significantly, trust in the U.S. As Canada’s Carney said, it was a “pleasant fiction,” but it worked far better than colonialism or empire-building. Then Trump and the Republican Party ended trust in the U.S. Moreover, they have created an environment of hostility toward the U.S. This will be difficult to overcome, but I believe this is what will drive the next reinvention of the U.S. - rebuilding trust.
